Quick Before it Melts

If you’re into it…

There are days when I feel like I’m so out of the loop that I may never get caught up on all the great stuff I should be listening to/reading/watching. I’ve been trying to rectify the situation on the watching front lately by immersing myself in Flight of the Conchords, quite possibly the funniest show on television (now that Arrested Development is gone). With one season under their belts, the duo of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement are gearing up for another round of tales from their fish-out-of-water lives as New Zealand’s dynamic folk duo let loose on the street of New York City. Purveyors of the show will be familiar with many of the songs that are on the duo’s self-titled, Sub Pop-released debut album, but even out of context, the songs still snap at your funny bone with some of the best comedy lyrics I’ve ever heard. And that the songs are so fully realized musically is an added bonus–they stand the test of repeated listens. They even won a Grammy fer God’s sake! Why did I wait so long to get on board?

Yeah! Glad you’ve cottoned on to the joys of the Conchords finally — being as how they are New Zealand’s fourth most popular digi-folk paradists and all…
