THE DIRTY NIL >> Higher Power

THE DIRTY NIL >> Higher Power

For long time fans of The Dirty Nil, it’s hard to believe that Higher Power is their debut album. Luke Bentham, Kyle Fisher and Dave Nardi have played the long game perfectly. With every release over the past five years, their fan base has become more rabid and the momentum they have managed to wrangle has felt ready blow for sometime. The screaming feedback at the onset of “No Weaknesses”, the album’s lead off track, is like smoke from a volcano that is ready to burst, sending a warning to listeners: you’ve got no choice but to brace for incineration or run as fast as you can out of the way because at this point nothing can stop The Dirty Nil.

2016 New Music Preview

2016 is barely a twinkle, but the year in Canadian music is already looking bright. We’re stilling waiting for Views From the 6 to drop, and for news about a Reflektor follow-up, but we’re just as eager to hear new music from the following eight artists as well. Absolutely Free Their space-age art rock debut album sat high atop […]

THE DIRTY NIL >> “Zombie Eyed”

This is where a caption would go The Dirty Nil

“Zombie Eyed” is all ragged gory guitar riffs, full of rapid-fire deadly beats and walking bass infected with The Dirty Nil‘s trademark punk vim and vitriol. The latest (and arguably greatest) sonic assault from Hamilton ON’s premiere power trio will eat your brains, gnaw on your ears, and leave your head in a bloody, pulpy mess. And […]

THE DIRTY NIL >> “No Weaknesses”

When this music blog comes to an end (and one day soon it will) and I reflect on what the last 10 years spent writing about music has brought me (besides mountains of promo material, a working knowledge of HTML, and countless sleepless nights), at the top of the list will be: The Dirty Nil.

Over the last four years, since first hearing their “Fuckin’ Up Young” 7″, I have had a front row seat for the making of the next Greatest Band in Canada®. Guitarist Luke Bentham, bassist Dave Nardi, and drummer Kyle Fisher are gluttons for punishment, crisscrossing North America relentlessly touring, pressing their own singles, releasing mixtapes, making a holy racket wherever they go and converting fans in less time it takes to listen to one of their tracks. I love these guys.
