Quick Before it Melts

You’ve become skeletal

by  |  April 17, 2013

I get a lot of recommendations about new music I have to hear (So amazing!  Incredible mash-up!  Highly acclaimed!) but every so often I get a recommendation from someone who also makes music, and that makes me sit up and take note.

Case in point, Mr. Jay Holy, formerly of Toronto’s Pow Wows, and now striking out on his own, making hair-raising, funeral pop as heard on his Skeletor EP.  Like Expwy, Holy has an innate pop sensibility, but the execution is anything but formulaic.

And who recommended Jay Holy to me, you ask?  This gal.

In it, you'll hear a the broad strokes of someone who's explored a range of sonic influencers--from 13th Floor Elevators to Ride, The Velvet Underground to Atlas Sound--and is now drilling down through the gauzy haze of guitar drone to find their essence, their truth.
