When this music blog comes to an end (and one day soon it will) and I reflect on what the last 10 years spent writing about music has brought me (besides mountains of promo material, a working knowledge of HTML, and countless sleepless nights), at the top of the list will be: The Dirty Nil.
Over the last four years, since first hearing their “Fuckin’ Up Young” 7″, I have had a front row seat for the making of the next Greatest Band in Canada®. Guitarist Luke Bentham, bassist Dave Nardi, and drummer Kyle Fisher are gluttons for punishment, crisscrossing North America relentlessly touring, pressing their own singles, releasing mixtapes, making a holy racket wherever they go and converting fans in less time it takes to listen to one of their tracks. I love these guys.
The Dirty Nil signed with Dine Alone Records earlier this year and recently shared their first release for their new label, fittingly a 7″ single: “No Weaknesses” is an original short, sharp blast of breakneck energy, a defiant new calling card for the uninitiated. It will come backed with a cover of Fugazi’s “Provisional”, and is just a taste of what to expect on their full length, due in early 2016.
