The Burning Hell had me at “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls”.
If you know nothing else about me from this blog, then you must certainly know that I’m a sucker for cover songs, especially iconic 80s pop anthems like Men Without Hats’ 1987 ear candy hit “Pop Goes the World”.
“Pop Goes the World” is a perfect fit for the playfully sardonic Burning Hell; witty, wordy, and sagely wise, they whip up a pitch perfect take on the tale of Jenny and Johnny and their haphazard band The Human Race. Not content to solely take on the song, they back it with a song about Men Without Hats called “Men Without Hats”, and also reinterpret the original single’s artwork for their cover. How much more DOMINIONATED can you get?
“Pop Goes the World” is now out as a limited edition 7″ single from Headless Owl Records, along with The Burning Hell’s latest album, The Public Library (more on that coming soon). The band heads out on a cross-country tour this month:
