We’re being treated to an embarrassment of riches from Daniel Lee and April Aliermo, who last announced a new album with their band Hooded Fang, and now have dropped a new single from Phèdre, their alterna-pop alter ego.
“Zastroszy” is a super-charged, kinetic freak out, punctuated with “uh ohs” and angular drum beats, densely packed with swirling psychedelic synths, and an oddly pleasing coda that releases the tension Lee and Aliermo build up with their skittering beats. Influenced by the early days of internet communications (who still remembers their ICQ handle?) “Zastroszy” sounds as fast as DSL connections must have felt after living life with dial-up.
Phèdre are on tour throughout Asia in March, and are planning more music releases in the coming months.
