While the musical world lost it shit yesterday, there was another subtle yet significant return happening: Expwy released a new song.
“Love in Ideleness” is a collaboration–the first for Expwy–between Matt LeGroulx and vocalist Sonia Thomson (of Ambrose), whose voice, lyrics, and melody grace the softly sedated song. Thomson’s contributions add a whole new wrinkle to the expressive, musical world of Expwy. At almost six-and-a-half minutes, it’s one of the longest songs LeGroulx’s released under the project, with a vastly different feel from the blown speaker, garage rock workouts of his last few releases. I’d go so far as to say this is Expwy (and LeGroulx) at his prettiest.
LeGroulx says there’s a new Expwy album coming, and perhaps “Love in Idleness” is a beacon for a change of direction, style, or sound. Whatever it is, it’s most definitely a signal that our favourite Montreal-based musical maverick is back.Tags: Expwy
