Toronto based three-piece The Smoking Bells have an “intense fascination with dreaming and sleeping” that’s informed their first full length record, Sleeptalk. Band member Darius (seriously, does anyone in music still have a surname??) says he spent much of his younger life dealing with sleep paralysis, an experience he says was akin to bridging the seeming divide between the sleeping and waking worlds.
“Good Woman”, premiering today and streaming below, is about the notion that “we consistently dream about an ideal that doesn’t exist. Where the process of aspiring to an unattainable archetype – intended to be simply a means – becomes an end unto itself.” Weighty ideals indeed, but set to The Smoking Bells easy musical style, it’s an idea you can easily wrap your mind around.Tags: The Smoking Bells
