LAL, the electronic duo of Rosina Kazi and Nicholas Murray, are ready to unveil Find Safety, the result of three years of studio work that brings new meaning to the phrase “the politics of dancing”. The goal was to create a highly kinetic, beat-driven record highlighting Kazi’s powerful voice that’s lyrically informed by the band’s practice of hosting shows in their home.
“For almost 20 years we have been making music and this album brings us back to our roots as an electronic duo,” Kazi says. “Ultimately, it represents our journey of looking for, creating and being part of amazing spaces and communities, changing the world and dancing while we do it.”
LAL have long felt the draw to social justice causes and creating safe and welcoming artistic spaces in their community, in particular LGBTQ2S and BIPOC issues. Kazi says, “We felt like we needed to make a record that spoke more to our experience being brown/black in Toronto, having traveled all over the world.”
Find Safety arrives via Rae Spoon’s label Coax Records on April 29, and LAL offer up the first taste of it today, premiering the song “Stand In My Way” here today. Watch for Canadian tour dates coming this May and June.Tags: LAL
