10/10 >> Digits

This month, Quick Before It Melts celebrates 10 years of music blogging and writing by honouring 10 Canadian artists who’ve had the greatest impact and influence on Quick Before It Melts over the last 10 years, and each in their own way have left their mark on our website and our soul. We’re calling this special series of posts 10/10.

For someone who uses the musical moniker Digits to make stark, electro-pop, Alt Altman is truly a warm and generous human being. His beating heart is plainly in view throughout his prolific musical catalogue, and it is that human, organic quality to his work that drew me to him when he first shared his music with Quick Before It Melts in 2009.

As a founder of Silent Shout, Canada’s definitive source for the best electronic music, Altman has been Quick Before It Melts’ greatest ally and friend. It’s difficult to balance following many blogs when you’re busy trying to write your own, but not a week goes by where I don’t check in to see what Silent Shout is sharing, assured that whatever it is, it’ll be great. Likewise when word comes down that Digits has a new project, be it a one-off single, a new mixtape of remixes, or a brand-spanking new full length concept album, I know that what I’m about to hear will make it to the pages of Quick Before It Melts.

If his name is new to you, then you clearly haven’t been following our posts closely for the last 10 years, but there’s no time like the present to get caught up on the work of our favourite futurist: The following is but a small sample of my personal favourite songs from Digits’ vast collection of music.

Alt, thanks for being a musical inspiration, a blogging compatriot, and a friend!

”Where Do You Belong?” (from Where Do You Belong?

”Lost Dream (Remix)” (from Lost Dream

Majical Cloudz “What Was That (Digits Remix)” (from Shake Your Body Down

In it, you'll hear a the broad strokes of someone who's explored a range of sonic influencers--from 13th Floor Elevators to Ride, The Velvet Underground to Atlas Sound--and is now drilling down through the gauzy haze of guitar drone to find their essence, their truth.
