With a name like Doomsquad, you know the music’s gonna be dark and shady, but in a totally good way.  And I wouldn’t expect anything less from Hand Drawn Dracula, whose recently launched Artificial Records imprint released their self titled EP in June.  HDD has consistently released stellar records, challenging sometimes, but always worth investigating, so any new signing to the label is worth the effort in checking out.

The same could be said of Doomsquad.  The band is made up of three siblings, Allie, Jaclyn and Trevor Blumas, based in Toronto and Montreal, who’ve created a dense, deep, brooding collage of sounds and influences, that may not sit easily with every listener, but spend some time with their EP and you’ll be rewarded by their version of The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm”, a cover that sounds as fresh and scary as the original did all those years back.

Doomsquad recently debuted a hypnotic video for the track “Eternal Return” (embedded above) and will be touring Ontario/East-Coast Canada with HSY (formerly Hussy) this September/October, followed by a tour of the UK/EU in November, ahead of the release of their first long player on HDD some time later this year.
