I couldn’t have been more thrilled to hear about the imminent return of The Besnard Lakes last week. Their last album, 2010’s The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night, topped my list of favourite records for the year pretty much from the moment I heard it. There is something mystical, magical in the way they paint with sound; brushing layers of colour and texture on a cosmic canvas that isn’t static or still. The sound is massive, but yet The Besnard Lakes make you feel as if you’re getting an intimate performance for you alone. Add to that news that this time they’re being joined by Spencer Krug of Moonface, and I can hardly contain the giddy excitement that’s building up inside me.
“People of the Sticks” is the first single from their forthcoming fourth album, Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO. The album is due on April 2, 2013, on Jagjaguwar Records. As seems to be the way these days, you can listen to it through the official YouTube posting, embedded below.
