I would be totally remiss if I let today go by without paying special tribute to one of my favourite Canadian bloggers, Matthew Pollesel, who has been running the fantastic i(heart)music.net for a great number of years now from the nation’s capital. What those of us outside of Ottawa may or may not know, though, is that Matt’s also been a bright light on Ottawa’s live music scene, promoting shows for almost 5 years now.
Tonight’s show at Ottawa’s legendary Zaphod’s with The D’Ubervilles, Loon Choir, and The Darcys marks Matt’s last show as a promoter. it’s the cap to a three-night run that’s featured up-and-comers Ketch Harbour Wolves, The Architects, and Lory Lordy. Earlier this week, Apt. 613, Ottawa’s online voice for all things creative and capital city based, ran a very nice feature on Matt and his shows (over 100!) that highlights his contributions to Canadian music locally and on a national level. It’s a credit to Matt that band’s now seek him out for shows.
I’m sure blogging is still going to remain in Matt’s future, because we’d certainly miss his annual poll of the hottest bands in Canada (check out the 2010 edition here if you missed it). John O’Reagan will be playing himself tonight when The D’Ubervilles take the stage, but it’s been his alter ego Diamond Rings that’s had one heck of a 2010.
